BUDDY DIVERS NEWSLETTER
www.skiptondivers.co.ukThank you to all those who came to the meeting, welcome to Ruth and Joe (and Joe’s friend Cameron) who came to the meeting for the first time, and a selection of Pennine Divers who came to get the arrangements for the first joint trip.
Fill up Places – We have had a few posts about filling places on trips and boats. Andrew had a couple of places on a trip to Scapa going on 30th Oct and Yaz has one in planning for next year. Please keep them coming, this is what the Forum is about.
Dive Trips 2010 - St Abbs – 16th and 17th Oct A grand trip was had by all, well apart from Dan who had a stinking cold and Dan’s dog Sam, who was so disappointed not to be in the water. Anyway, the write up for the trip is on the Forum so you can read all about it if you haven’t already. This was the first time that the Pennine Divers and SBD had been on a joint trip, and it was a great success. They are very like minded divers, they have a few more bits of kit (more later) enjoy a drink, a good laugh, and a good dive. Stu W stayed with them in the small cottage on the harbour and as he said they couldn’t have made us more welcome. One difference was that they catered for themselves with a slow cooker full of Sausage casserole on Friday night and Chilli on Saturday night! JT can we have one please

Diving, well Saturday was very rough for both dives, but the skipper was great and everyone got in and out safely. Sunday was quite calm and we managed two good dives. An email of thanks has gone to Paul Crowe the Skipper and Rachel Crowe who looked after board and lodging for us. Definitely one for 2011.
Final Dives of 2010 You are still posting the dates and meeting places of dives on the Forum, please keep it up as I am sure there are a few more weeks left of warmish weather and water to enjoy diving. Then of course the hardened divers take over to dive over the winter. Brrrrrr!!!! Pass me the ice pick.
SBD Centrefold. Just a note to Say that a white envelope arrived at my house last week from Oonasdivers with the 2011 travel brochure enclosed and who has made it to their centrefold??? JT and Nick beneath the Jolly Roger flag. Thanks to Nick who submitted the photo, Fame at last!!
Christmas 2010 - Saturday 4th Dec Bowling and Curry we decided at the last meeting that the old faithful of Bowling and Curry would stand again this year. I have booked 24 places (so far) for the bowling for 7pm on Saturday 4th December and the cost will be about £8.95 for two games and shoe hire. (There may be a change in cost nearer the time with a Pins & Pints type offer, but they don’t have details at the moment.) Then we on to Azeems at about 9.00pm for a curry and the SBD awards for 2010. Please remember to bring your own booze for the meal. I will post a note on the Forum, under Social Events, please indicate if you are coming on the Do, either to both bowling and curry or just to one or the other, so I can get approximate numbers. Partners are more than welcome to come on this do.
Red Sea 2011 – Oh yes!!! Adz is organising a trip for 16th – 23rd Sept 2011. This will be on one of the Blue O2 fleet from Hurgarda (flight from Manchester. ) doing Brothers, Elphinstone and Daedalus. Adz has 6 people already booked from his dive school and if anyone is interested please speak to Adz re details and costs or send him a PM or email.
Trips for 2011 – we will be looking to organise the club boat trips for next year soon, so please let us know where you would like to go and when, If you have shift days you have to work around if you let us know we will try and accommodate you as much as possible. Don’t forget we will be joining with Pennine Divers on some trips, so that we can go to some of the areas we haven’t been for a while because we couldn’t fill the whole boat.
I will put a poll and ideas on the Forum under Local and Short Trips, please vote for your favourite FOUR short boat trips. The ones that get the most votes we will book.
As we said we will be looking to fill a boat with the help of Pennine Divers. After a quick discussion at the end of the last meeting, we would both normally do the same trips, Farnes, St Abbs etc. However they are looking at a long weekend trip to Malta. Low cost flight, cheap accommodation and shore diving at a cost of around about £120. I will add this to the trip list as an extra, so please indicate if you think you might like to go, so we can discuss at the joint planning meeting.
Into 2012!! Get saving, the trip for 2012 we are looking at going to the Red Sea in May or June, as the dive guides say this is the time to go to see the larger fishes and also a different set of fish to the ones we normally see in the autumn. JT will be organising and he said he would prefer to do Brothers and Elphinstone. Please put this in your diaries.
AGM and Committee election the AGM will be at the January meeting on 6th Jan 2011.
Please put this date in your diary and we will need any questions or queries you want to put to the committee, beforehand, ready for the agenda. We will also need to elect the officials of the club, Treasurer, Secretary and Chairman, plus 2 general members. If anybody would like to stand for the committee we will seek nominations at the November meeting.
Tanks – Club tanks - Please contact JT if you want to borrow them. Prompt return please once you have finished with them. Please speak to Craig if the JT’s are not available.
First Aid Kit & O2 please TELL US if you have use anything so that we can replace it. As we said before the First Aid and O2 must be returned to JT after each trip please. We did need to use the O2 on the St Abbs trip as a precaution, so it is really important that we get the items we used replaced before its needed again. We have also added some antiseptic type wipes as we didn’t seem to have anything to mop up the blood from Chris’s head after he scratched it on the St Abbs trip.
Forum Highlights –
Don’t forget to post some of your pictures or short video clips onto the media page on the forum. Some photos from the St Abbs trip have been uploaded, but please add any photos from your trips.
Please say hello to the new divers on the Forum. There have been several recently and hopefully they will be able to come to the meeting, be gentle with them.
Please tell everyone if and when you are planning a trip, someone may want a buddy and would like to join you. There are lots of mid week divers now, so just ask.
New Member to the Forum DavyDiver has asked if anybody fancies a go at Octopush (a form of underwater hockey), I think we should take him up on his offer, any takers apart from me and Dr Neek?
Please post details of your trips and let us know what you got up to
