BUDDY DIVERS NEWSLETTER
www.skiptondivers.co.uk

Firstly, as some of you may already know, it is with great sadness that we have to announce that Patrick (aka Old Guy) has passed away on 31st August. He was taken into hospital last week and did not recover from a suspected blood infection. He had only been with the club since May, but his infectious enthusiasm for diving, and his posts on the forum will be greatly missed. Adz has set up a page on the Forum under ‘Important Things’ for you to write your messages if you wish. I suggest that the club sends some flowers and a card to his family, hope you agree.

At the last meeting we had a visit from Pennine Divers, thanks for trekking over the Pennines, lady and gentlemen, it was nice to see you again and introduce you to members of the club. Hope we didn’t put you off to much, club humour takes some getting used to!!.

As you know we will be joining with Pennine divers next year to book some ‘whole boat’ trips to places that we haven’t been able to go to by ourselves, as we cannot fill the boat. Details of trips will be out early next year when we get our thinking caps on. If you have any ideas or recommendations let us know now so we can investigate prices etc.

Dive Trips 2010 - St Abbs – 16th and 17th Oct, Boat leaves from St Abbs 9am and 1pm on Saturday and 11am and 3pm on Sunday on a shuttle style service with your surface interval on land. Please book your own accommodation, we have lists if anybody would like one sending. We have a full boat, but don’t forget you can still come on the trip and shore dive, with Stu, Karen and Malc or not dive at all and then join us for post dive food and drink. Partners and significant others most welcome, it’s still a lovely part of the world to visit.

Mike and Kaz had another look at Kirkby Lonsdale last week and the water is still dark brown and peaty, we will get there one day.

Mick (2292) went to the local reservoirs in Baildon and spotted some unusual freshwater jellyfish, anyone who wants to visit please speak to Mick for details as you need a key.

Pennine Divers invited us to go to the Rez near Manchester airport on their trip, totally enclosed dark reservoir, only shallow but good night diving practice. They enjoyed it and will let us know when they go again.

Dan, Chris and Adz volunteered for the Sue Ryder ‘Dip in the Dales’ as safety cover and we received a very nice letter from Wasim thanking the volunteers and telling us that they are on course to raise over £5000 from the event. Many thanks to Adz, Dan and Chris for helping with this.

Nothing else has been booked by the club at the moment but there are plenty of posts on the forum for mid week and weekend dives.

Red Sea  - 9th – 16th Sept 2010 – Daedelus/Rocky/Zabargad we are all ready for this trip and will bring back lots of photos and video to bore you with at the next meeting. Please remember to print off your tickets detailing the baggage allowance and we will wait for last minute instructions from Dr Neek re meeting times and place.

Red Sea 2011 – Oh yes!!! Even before we have set off on this years trip, Adz is organising a trip for 16th – 23rd Sept 2011. This will be on one of the Blue O2 fleet from Hurgarda (flight from Manchester. ) doing Brothers, Elphinstone and Daedalus. Adz has 6 people already booked from his dive school and if anyone is interested please speak to Adz re details or send him a PM or email.

There was also talk of a Feb/March trip either in 2011 or 2012, as this is a cheaper time of year, anyone game?

Local Trips –If anyone is planning either a weekend or mid week trip, please post it on the Forum as there may be other people who would like to join you. Come and dive with me posts are now coming onto the Forum thick and fast, please keep this up. Don’t forget to post a quick note to say how it went, as well posting any photos you may have taken under or above water.

Tanks – Club tanks - Please contact JT if you want to borrow them. Prompt return please once you have finished with them. Please speak to Craig if the JT’s are not available.

First Aid Kit & O2 please TELL US if you have use anything so that we can replace it. As we said before the First Aid and O2 must be returned to JT after each trip please

Memberships For all those due to pay up in September we will be collecting at the meeting. membership forms can be downloaded from the Forum, or I can send you one via email. Please fill a new one in each year so that we can keep our records up to date. Cash or cheques payable to Skipton Buddy Divers please. If your membership is due later in the year we will send you a PM on the forum or ring you to let you know, failing that, of course we send JT round, that's Joan not Jon!!!

Forum Highlights

Don’t forget to post some of your pictures or short video clips onto the media page on the forum. New ones have been uploaded recently so have a look. No doubt there will be lots of new ones after the Red Sea trip.

Please say hello to the new divers on the Forum. There have been several recently and hopefully they will be able to come to the meeting, be gentle with them.

Please tell everyone if and when you are planning a trip, someone may want a buddy and would like to join you. There are lots of mid week divers now, so just ask.

Please post details of your trips and let us know what you got up to

Come to the meeting Thursday  2nd Sept 2010 at Cross Keys

A little late addition  ;D

Congratulations go to Steve and Sarah Pedlar on the birth of Finley Thomas on 3rd August.

Apparently he is keeping Dad busy pushing the pram, whilst Mum gets some rest.

Best wishes to all
