BUDDY DIVERS NEWSLETTERwww.skiptondivers.co.uk

Firstly apologies for the lateness of this newsletter, we’ve been diving!!! Lots this month

Dive Trips 2010 - Farnes – 31st July and 1st August. We all had a great time, there is a cracking write up by ace reporter Bev on the Forum, please read it. Thanks to all who came and dived, and those who just came to support partners. Hopefully we can do this again soon. An email of thanks has gone to Billy and Ginge for their efforts over the weekend. Anyone else got tooth marks and scratches on their fins from the seals?

St Abbs – the weekend we had planned in June was blown out by severe weather, luckily the skipper phoned on the Friday and we managed to contact everyone before they set off. Good call by the skipper, although the weather was sunny and warm, strong winds made the sea very rough indeed. . Just to remind you the boat has a lift at the back and operates on a shuttle service out of the harbour, with your surface interval on dry land. Cost was £25 per day for two dives. New dates have been offered as follows, can we make our minds up on Thursday, and I will confirm our choices with him

9th -10th Oct up to 12 places on boat, but no accommodation available with them
16th – 17th Oct  up to 12 places on boat and 5 spaces available in cottage at £20 pppn
23rd  - 24th Oct up to 12 spaces on boat and 8 spaces in cottage and B & B from £20 pppn
30th – 31st Oct up to 12 spaces on boat and spaces in cottage and B & B from £20 pppn (other accommodation in the area is available if you dont want to stay here)

The skippers wife also asked me to remind you that they have some spaces on the boat midweek in September and October as well on special offer with air and accommodation. Check out details of accommodation in B & B, cottage or bunkhouse and have a look at the boat on www.divestabbs.info

Lots of weekday divers are now meeting at Capernwray and the Delph, so watch out on the Forum for their posts and requests for Buddies, please check for replies and response posts on the forum before you go.

Kaz and Mike have had a couple of dives with Mick, who came to the last meeting and with Graham who spotted we were going to Capernwray on the Forum and joined us from Blackpool. Such a shame his only diving has been in Tobago, Maldives and Hawaii, still we introduced him to the wonder that is Capernwray. It was nice that he thought it worthy of taking his camera down for a few snaps. He has posted a couple on the Forum, check out the media pages.

Lets arrange some day trips you can just jump on nearer the time. The dive at Millom that Mick told us about at the last meeting sounds great, and don’t forget that he can get us into the local reservoirs for a quick evening or afternoon dive.

Pennine Sub Aqua -  We went to their meeting a few months back and hopefully we can welcome them to the meeting in August. We are looking to collaborate with them next year to get ‘full boat only’ trips booked in some other locations that we haven’t been able to go to for a while as we cannot fill the boats ourselves. Please come to the meeting and say hello, they don't bite honest!

Video night – JT x 2 excelled themselves again with the entertainment and the food provided on the DVD night earlier this month. The Red Sea and Indonesia trips were on show, and brilliant they were too. Nice to see old friends who came for the event. Ian’s pies are still as good as they ever were. Joan, the peas and gravy were great too.

Red Sea  - 9th – 16th Sept 2010 – Daedelus/Rocky/Zabargad Nick has arranged this trip and it is looming on the horizon. You should have all paid the balances now, booked 15lt tanks and extras etc. Nick has arranged the minibus to and from the airport, £20 each all we need now are times to meet and we are ready for off. Nick will get in touch nearer the time with details.

Local Trips –If anyone is planning either a weekend or mid week trip, please post it on the Forum as there may be other people who would like to join you. ‘Come and dive with me’ posts are now coming onto the Forum thick and fast, please keep this up over the summer. There has been a couple of people who have not replied to posts about going diving. Maybe it would be better to post on the forum rather than sending a PM to the person? can we agree a format for this?

Kit – as there are a lot of newish divers on the Forum, if you want to sell any surplus or indeed buy kit, there is a part of the Forum available for such things. Give it a try.

Tanks – Club tanks - Please contact JT if you want to borrow them. Prompt return please once you have finished with them. Please speak to Craig if the JT’s are not available.

First Aid Kit & O2 please TELL US if you have use anything so that we can replace it. As we said before the First Aid and O2 must be returned to JT after each trip please

Forum Highlights

Don’t forget to post some of your pictures or short video clips onto the media page on the forum.

Please say hello to the new divers on the Forum.

Please tell everyone if and when you are planning a trip, someone may want a buddy and would like to join you. There are lots of mid week divers now, so just ask and check the replies regularly.

Please post details, photos or a report of your trips and let us know what you got up to.

Try the shoutbox – it’s a bit random, but give it a go. Its mainly Nick talking to himself, but there are a couple of other posters trying to get a shout in edgewise. Recent topics have included, haymaking, handbags, spam sandwiches and weather predictions.

Come to the meeting Thursday  5th August 2010 at Cross Keys

SEE YOU AT THE MEETING
