BUDDY DIVERS NEWSLETTERwww.skiptondivers.co.ukFirstly apologies for the lateness of the newsletter, I have been off work and although it was typed up I forgot to post it to the Forum, I’m getting old!!!! Anyway I had a few more things to add from this week.
Although, I am not (quite) as old as Dr Neek, who turned 50 this month, thanks Nick and Kerry for your hospitality, it was a great night and a couple of divers were the last to be scooped into a taxi at the end of the night, well nearly the start of the morning! Lovely to see Sally & Dennis from the Southern Branch too.
Many thanks to all who attended the last meeting, a warm welcome to new members Stuart who joined us at the meeting, to Ben and Patrick and newest member Laura, who might join us this meeting.
Dive Trips 2010 - St Abbs – 19 – 20th June, Boat leaves from St Abbs on a shuttle style service with your surface interval on land. Please book your own accommodation, we have lists if anybody would like one sending. We have Dan, Joan, Jon, Bev and Chris down at the moment, and Jonathan booked the last place, so we are full now, unless anyone has decided to drop out. Don’t forget you can still come on the trip and shore dive, or not dive at all and then join us for post dive food and drink. Partners and significant others most welcome, it’s still a lovely part of the world to visit.
Dive Trips 2010 - Farnes – 31st July and 1st August. Boat (with lift!!)leaves from Beadnall harbour as usual, I have booked 8 places but if extra people want to come, there is space at the moment. Last count we have Dan, Chris, Mike, Kaz, Joan, Jon and Bev and Andrew booked. Please book your own accommodation, lists are available if you want me to send one to you. We can have some more places on this boat if we need them, but let me know before the end of June soon so I can book them with the skipper.
At the moment that is all that’s booked, but the ‘no boat options’ to Anglesey and Lakes did get a good poll vote, so lets arrange some day trips you can just jump on nearer the time.
Trip Reports - Kaz & Mike met up with Dan, Stuart, Peter (friend of Nigels) and Old Guy at Capernwray Wednesday last week, it was sunny again and we all had a good laugh and several great dives, water is now a balmy 12-14 deg, semi drys at the ready! Later on the free divers appeared and had a swim about, odd folk, loud wetsuits and no tanks what’s that all about?
K & M went back again on Friday and there were fewer people there so again viz was great. Saturday we went to Wastwater, just did a couple of dives, the water didn’t freeze us completely but the rain was lashing down and the wind howling down the valley. There appear to be some new ‘attractions’ for the not so hardy divers. From the usual car park take a right turn, down to 10 – 12m and there seems to be a Capo Di Monte garden, full of peoples (very) valuable pot dogs, crinoline ladies, cute cherubs etc etc, spread out over prominent stones, a quirky 10 min dive feature to say the least.
This week K & M have been to Eccleston Delph on Tuesday, sadly we had to endure the company of two other divers this week, but we got 3 dives done, warm water 14 deg and the viz was good. Wednesday we went back to Capernwray for more diving, loads of divers, the warm weather brings them out I believe. However later on they were holding the South Lakes Triathalon, using Capers as the swim and HQ locations, quite a lot of lycra about, and that was just the chaps!
Mike and Kaz also took a look at the river at Kirkby Lonsdale, it was clear viz but the water level is quite low. We are planning to have a quick late pm/night couple of dives on Saturday 26th June if anybody wants to join us, followed by some food (BBQ?) and a couple of sherberts. Pennine divers - want to join us?
North Berwick – I have had a call from the skipper who has 6 spare places on a boat for 12th & 13th June. They are happy to take 2, 4 or 6 individuals, so if you would like to go please give the skippers Brian or Gary a call on 01620 890022 and mention that you heard it through Skipton Divers. This is not an official club trip, we are just trying to help them out.
