BUDDY DIVERS NEWSLETTER  www.skiptondivers.co.uk

Thank you for turning up to the last meeting, it was a good turnout. Welcome to Barry who joined the club.

SUMMER SOCIAL THIS SATURDAY  2nd JULY– a few beers and a BBQ, maybe some dive DVD’s etc etc. at Karen A’s house. Starting at 5pm (ish) format would be as usual, please bring your own booze and meat for the BBQ, and if possible a pot luck dish to share (salad, coleslaw, pudding maybe??) and the club will provide, nibbles, sauces and bread. Full details on the Social section of the forum, please add your name or send Karen A a message if you want to come along. Sleepovers are available if you need them.

St Abbs – 18th and 19th June trip with Paul Crane on Tiger Lily, this was a great weekend with fantastic viz, please see the write up further down the page and have a look at the brilliant photos from Graham on the Media section of the forum.

Farnes – 6th and 7th August trip with William Sheil to see the seals (hopefully) as last year. Please book your own accommodation very soon as the available B & B places are going fast. Cost is £40 per day for two dives. We have booked 10 places but more are available. Again there is a proper list on the Forum for you to sign up to, this is proving popular so get your name down quickly. Last count at 30.06 we had JT x 2, Andrew, Mick, Nigel, Dan, Simon, Graham, Kaz , Mike, Simon M, Naomi, and Paul.

BBQ at Devils Bridge? – Mick (Diver 2292) has suggested a BBQ at Devils Bridge with a dive involved somewhere along the way, maybe dusk, maybe night dive. We used to do this trip ages ago so it should be great night and not too far away. I think he was looking at  Friday night. Mick is going to put full details on the Forum, so keep your eyes peeled for this.

Now the weather is warming up, people are getting back to diving and looking for buddies both mid week and weekends so please check the forum regularly for requests. Don’t forget to post some of your pictures or short video clips onto the media page on the forum. Please add any photos from your trips and a few details of what you got up to.

New membership list – after the flurry of new divers joining the club, I have completed a new membership list and this can be collected from me at any meeting. This will not be published on the Forum.

Facebook and Twitter – Nick tells me that we are now available on these formats

Nick has asked for your opinion on some changes to the Forum front page. Please see the Forum for the changes as he has set them up and let him know what you think. Most comments are very positive for the changes, which we think make us more unified and apart from a few tweaks Nick thinks we are almost there.

Please say hello to the new divers on the Forum. There have been several recently and hopefully they will be able to come to the meeting, be gentle with them.

The next meeting is on Thursday 7th July at the Cross Keys .

St Abbs18th and 19th June trip with Paul Crane on Tiger Lily.

We all travelled up on Friday and arranged to meet at the New Inn for a drink at 8.30pm ish. Mike and Kaz had a easy trip as did Mike and Graham. JT, Chas, Bev and Joan had more problems as the A59 was closed and they had a long detour to get to the A1. Food eaten and drinks in hand we had a quick chat and then went back for a good night sleep.

Bright and early we met at the harbour, loaded the boat, Mick was not too good on Saturday morning (and he hadn’t touched a drop of drink) and excused himself from the day’s diving. We set off on what looked like a quite smooth sea, the waves were not too bad but the rolling of the ship was worse than normal. Paul took us to Anemone Gulley for a great dive amongst the gulleys and rocks. There was loads of life and Graham took some great photos. Second dive, Kaz excused herself as she also felt sick, but everybody else set off to Black Carrs. Lot and lots of life on this dive, as there were four spotters for the only cameraman – Graham. Two wolf fish were spotted, loads of nudibrancs and some very large lobsters. Diving finished and we headed back to our camps for a shower and some food before meeting up again in the New Inn.

Kaz and Mike missed the early part of the night as Kaz’s daughter had phoned to say she had crashed her car. Once at the pub we found Bev recounting the tale of a woman wandering about at their campsite in the middle of the afternoon smoking a cigarette and wearing a dressing gown. Post coital cigarette? we said, What? said Bev, I’ve never heard of it. What ensued was typical SBD night out conversation.

“Coitus or coition” say Mike F, explaining the word “the act of erm, er, a coming together”
“What about coitalling? Is that a word?” says JT, “Have you ever been coitalled Bev”
“No, No” says Mike, those aren’t real words
“They should be” says JT “What about coiting?”
“No” says Mike
“OK what about coits?” replies JT
“Yep, that a word quiots, but it’s a totally different thing”

By this time the whole pub was listening and laughing along with us. So if some one asks you if you have coited or coitalled recently, think twice before answering.!!

Sunday dawned another bright day and we set off and the couple who joined last minute on our last trip, came out with us again. Mick again decided that he was still not feeling good enough to go out. Kaz’s hose or O ring blew just before stepping off the boat but another great dive near Anemone Gulley with superb viz. Waiting for the second dive, as JT had brought the motorhome to the car park and we gathered for coffee and a slide show from Graham. Second dive saw only JT, Bev and Mike brave the elements.

We decamped from the boat, packed kit, loaded the cars and set off home. We just managed to miss a huge downpour, the first of many on the way home down the A1. Many thanks to everyone for a great trip. Paul Crowe was once again a brilliant skipper, many thanks to him. Next time we do this trip, lets hope we get the same weather and viz!
