Scapa Flow but not liveaboard
« on: October 20, 2010, 06:28:53 PM »
Hi Folks
Have got permission from Nick and Jon re posting spaces here.  Mark and I are trying to arrange a trip to Scapa next year and have 4 spaces left and due to be hit with extra costs previously Mark is reluctant to confirm with skipper until we have 12 confirmed divers.

The following is the details we have posted elsewhere.

Dates: Saturday 28th May to Saturday 4th June 2011

Boat: Radiant Queen Radiant Queen Charters Scapa Flow, Stromness, Orkney

Price: £340 - to include 7 nights accommodation on shore (Sat-Fri) and 6 days diving (Sun-Fri)

Check the website for more details but it looks like a good boat and comes highly recommended and having done 2 liveaboard trips to Scapa before now I think I'd much prefer the comfort and space of sleeping on land. The boat has air and nitrox and is rebreather friendly. A decent sounding, 2 course lunch can be had on the boat for £7.50 per day by prior arrangement. Of course in addition to the above cost you'll also need to factor in your ferry crossing over to Stromness and back (less than £35 return for foot passengers).

I will need the full £340 up front to secure a place. The first 12 to put their hands up will get the spots and once we have a full boat confirmed I will need the payment within 14 days.

If you are interested please email or message me. Thanks for reading.
Yaz

Hello Yaz

Have just returned from a Scapa trip which was awesome.   We were on MV Valkyrie which is a liveaboard but we saw Radiant Queen which is a very tidy boat.   Better still we met Emily, the Skipper who came on board our boat to do some diving, her boat's season having ended.

Emily comes from Huddersfield and, believe it or not, is a trained opera singer!   She is also an accomplished wreck diver and what she doesn't know about the German fleet isn't worth knowing.   We had the benefit of a briefing from her on one of the big battleship wrecks, and it was the best briefing of the week - we found everything she suggested we look for.

I am sure this will be a great trip.   Sorry I can't make it.   I might only just have returned from my first Scapa trip, but I'd go again tomorrow if i could.   Highly recommended!!

Andrew

Hi folks
Reason for not posting for so long is that I couldn't, it wouldn't let me and I couldn't ask Nick as it wouldn't let me.  >:( Thank goodness for facebook.

Anyway, we had a wonderful time at Scapa and diving on the Radiant Queen. Emily the skipper gives the best diving briefs I have ever heard and for all the dives we done I think we missed 2 things which she had mentioned on the wreck.  She really does know them inside and out and the briefs are supported with sonar images.

The accommodation was sumptuous with Egyptian cotton bedding and is less then a 3 minute walk from where the boat is berthed.  Emily also kindly got us tickets for the grand final of the Orkney Folk festival which was brilliant.

Great to be back in communication with you guys again and hope you are all keeping well.

Glad to hear you had a great trip on the Radiant Queen.

Nice to have you back Yaz  :-*
Cheers
Nick
An American tourist asks:
"Why do Scuba divers always fall backwards off their boats?"

To which the diver replies:
"If we fell forwards we'd still be in the fuckin’ boat."
